Create barges and barge visits

Barges have their own vessel classes, from which you can create vessels, and vessel visits.

To create a vessel class, a vessel, and a vessel visit for a barge:

  1. Prepare the barge ship file using Navis Ship Editor and save it to the XPS ship folder (xps/data/ship files).

Ship files use the following naming convention: <LineOperator>.<ShipClass>.<ShipName>.nsd

  1. On the XPS server, modify the SPARCS setting.txt file to define following settings, and restart the XPS server.

  1. In N4, create the vessel class for the barge:

  1. In the Vessel Class form (on page 1) (Configuration Carriers Vessel Classes Vessel Classes view +), in the Identity field, enter an ID that uniquely identifies the vessel class.

  2. In the Name field, enter the name of the vessel class as it appears in the name of the ship file.

The class name must always be preceded and followed by a period. For example, a ship file called PNL.CLAS.MY VESSEL.nsd defines a vessel class called CLAS. When you create the vessel class in N4, CLAS would be the reference to enter in the Name field of the Vessel Class form.

  1. From the Type drop-down list, select 'Barge' for the vessel class type.

  2. Optionally, select the Is Self Sustaining check box if the vessel is equipped with its own crane to move containers on and off the vessel. (The feature can be used for billing purposes.)

  3. Enter any optional information for the vessel class.

  4. Click Save.

  5. In the Vessel Class view, select the new barge class record, then Actions Import Ship File.

  6. Navigate to the ship file, and upload it. When you use the Vessel Class form to add a vessel class, you must make sure that the name of the class points to the relevant ship file so that XPS can identify the file when you open a vessel in the XPS client. If you assign an invalid class name, XPS cannot identify the proper ship file. When successful, the Has Bin Model? column displays a dot.

  1. Create a vessel that uses the new barge class:

  1. In the Vessel form (on page 1) (Configuration Carriers Vessels Vessels view +), in the Vessel Identity field, enter an ID that uniquely identifies the vessel.

  1. In the Lloyds Identity field, enter a unique ID for the hull of the vessel.

The Lloyds ID is an ID issued by the Lloyds Register of Ships.

  1. In the Name field, enter the name of the vessel.

  2. From the Vessel Class drop-down list, select the vessel class for the vessel.

  3. The drop-down list displays the vessel classes that exist at the current scope level. For more information on adding a vessel class, see Vessel Class form.

  4. From the Line Operator drop-down list, select the line operator that operates the vessel.

  5. The drop-down list displays the line operators that exist at the current scope level. For more information on adding a line operator, see Line Operator form (on page 1).

  6. From the Stowage Scheme drop-down list, select a stowage scheme for the vessel.

  7. Enter any optional information for the vessel.

  8. From the Measurements drop-down list, select the unit of measurement, except temperature, for the vessel.

The selected unit of measurement is used by XPS for the ship model.

  1. From the Temperatures drop-down list, select the temperature unit used on the vessel.

The selected temperature unit is used for the reefer manifests for the vessel.

  1. Click Save.

  1. Create a vessel visit for the barge:

  1. In the Vessel Visit form (Operations Vessel Vessel Visits +), in the Visit Ref field, enter an ID that uniquely identifies the vessel visit.

  1. From the Vessel lookup field, select the barge vessel you created.

  2. From the Facility lookup field, select the facility for the vessel visit.

  3. In the Inbound Voyage field, enter the inbound voyage number.

  4. In the Outbound Voyage field, enter the outbound voyage number.

By default, the inbound voyage number is copied to the Outbound Voyage field, but you can override it if the inbound and outbound voyage numbers are different.

  1. In the Outbound Call Nbr field, enter the call number for the vessel voyage.

  2. From the Service lookup field, select the service for the vessel visit.

  3. The Line Operator field displays the line operator associated with the vessel selected in step 5b. To override the displayed value, from the Line Operator lookup field, select the line operator for the vessel visit.

  4. Optionally, in the Est. Time of Arrival field, enter the estimated time of arrival of the vessel at the selected facility.

  5. From the Classification drop down list, select the vessel type as 'Barge'.

  6. Click Save.

  7. In the Vessel Visits view, select the new vessel visit record, then Actions Edit Visit Details.

  8. On the Miscellaneous tab, select the Common Carrier check box. This lets you create any line operator on the barge you created.

  9. Click Save.
